Navy redeploy senior officers

Authorities of the Nigerian Navy have approved a massive redeployment of senior officers of the service.

The Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Kabiru Aliyu, said in an electronic mail on Friday that the appointments approved by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, affected 266 officers.

According to the spokesman, the exercise affected 20 rear admirals, 97 commodores, 99 captains, four lieutenant commanders, 44 lieutenants and two sub lieutenants.

Aliyu said that Rear Admiral AOA Ikioda formerly of the National Institute of Strategic Studies has been moved to the Defence Headquarters as the Director  of Equipment, Standardisation and Harmonisation.

He said that the former Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command Rear Admiral J O Aikhomu, is now the Chief of Admnistrator, Naval Headquarters, while his former counterpart at the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral IE Ibas has been named the Deputy Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.

The redeployment also affected the former Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral I A Oyagha, now Director of Development, Defence Headquarters; the former Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral A I Ajuonu, is now Director of Sports, DHQ; Rear Admiral D O Osuofa now moderator at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies and Rear Admiral SU Chinweuba is Chief of Naval Engineering.

Other appointments include the former Deputy Commander at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Rear Admiral SI Alade, who is now Flag Officer  Commanding Western Naval Command; Rear Admiral AA Yusuf who is Commandant, Nigerian Navy Engineering College, Sapele, and Rear Admiral OP Ozojiofor, now Navy Secretary.
