The Good, The Bad Happenings of Showbiz Industry in 2013

Each year, the entertainment industry is marked with series of events, some good and others bad. In this report we presents the basic good and bad things that happened in Nigerian showbiz industry in 2013.

THE GOOD

One good thing that kept happening in movie department of entertainment industry is the churning out of new movies by old and new film producers. This year, a lot of films were premiered in various cinemas around the country and beyond. They include fantastic works that placed Nollywood in world map such as, Flower Girl, Unforgiveable, The gods Are Still Not to Blame, Torn, Journey to Self, The Awakening, Confusion Na Wa, and many others.

There were a lot of weddings in the industry this year, although it did not favour the movie sector so much. The Tinsel actress, Matilda Obaseki tied the nuptial knot with her beau, Arnold Mozia, Tuface Idbia married Annie Macaulay in a superlative wedding that took place in Dubai, actress Charity Ekeh and his movie director and scriptwriter hubby, Austin Fanni got married in Asaba, Delta state, Pop star Peter Okoye and Lola Omotayo had their traditional wedding, Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz equally got married traditionally, actress Uchenna Nnanna and her beau, Richard Maduka married traditionally and actress Uche Ogbodo equally had her traditional marriage with her husband.

Brand endorsement is yet another good event that took place as various entertainment celebs joined the old ones to endorse different brands, especially Telecoms brands. Pop star D'banj was welcomed back to the Globacom family, Wande Coal, Naeto C, M. I, Lynxxx, Waje Iruobe, Omawumi Megbele, Bez Idakula, Flavour, Burna Boy, became ambassador to the Telecoms company.

Sasha P, Ice prince, Olamide, Seyi Shay, Hafeez Ayetoro a. k. a Saka all signed mouth watering endorsement deal with Etisalat.

Award winning music producer and singer, Don Jazzy, D'Prince, Tiwa Savage, Praiz, Kcee, Iyanya Mbuk, Mike Anyasodo, Chidinma Ekiye, joined the list of MTN ambassadors.

Actress Stephanie Okereke signed an endorsement deal with a foreign sanitary company, singer Emma Nyra and BBA-The Chase housemate, Beverly Osu all got endorsement deal from foreign beauty companies.

The survival of ailing music producer, OJB Jezreel is yet another good incident that happened in entertainment industry.

Entertainment industry equally witnessed arrival of new born babies such as, actress, producer Oby Edozie and Alex O welcomed a baby boy after two years of their marriage, Paul Okoye welcome baby boy, Seun Kuti and fiancee, Yetunde had a baby girl together, actor Kayode Peters and wife welcomed baby girl, and many others.

THE BAD

The death of Justus Esiri hit the movie industry like a bomb, as if that was not enough Pop singer, Goldie died mysteriously. Other deaths include, Chinedu Epeagba, Lugard Ononyemu, Ray Daniels Okeugo, Fatai Rolling Dollas, veteran actor Pa Ogungbe, Prince Murphy, Seun Ogunlade, Fatilat Okerede.

The continuous re-opening of scandalous story of actress Stella Damasus alleged snatching of movie director, Daniel Ademinokan from her estranged wife, Doris Simeon made one of the bad happenstances of 2013.

The showbiz industry equally witnessed few crashed marriages this year. They include, Funke Akindele and Kehinde Oloyede, Jetta Amata and Mbong Amata, Chika Ikeh equally obtained divorce from hubby.

The story of actor Solomon Akiyesi's bigamy scandal placed Nollywood in a bad light this year.
