Enugu government proposes N93.2bn budget for 2014

Enugu State Government on Tuesday proposed a budget estimate of N93,287,000,000 for the 2014 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.

The sum represents over N9bn or 11 percent increase  over last year's estimate of N83,773,203,408.

The budget tagged, 'Budget of Actualisation,' was presented by the state's governor Sullivan Chime.

Reccurrent expenditure accounted for N39,342,549,163 of the budget, which is  42 percent of the budget size, while N53,944,450,837 is for capital expenditure, representing 58 percent of the budget.

He said the government expected a recurrent revenue of N57,490,114,000, which it intended to realise through internally-generated revenue estimated at N9,190,114,000, representing 16 percent and its share of federal revenue put at N48,300,000,000 or 84 percent.

Governor Chime said that the budget would aim to consolidate on infrastructural development in the state by completing ongoing projects and taking on new ones.

In this regards, works and infrastructure received the highest sectoral allocation of N15.623bn.

This the governor explained was to enable the government to actualise its ambition of ensuring that all ongoing urban and rural roads and other infrastructural development projects were completed and commissioned before the end of the 2014.

The education sub-sector came second with N5.78bn covering allocations to the Ministry of Education, State Universal Education Board, the Post-primary School Management Board, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Institute of Management and Technology, College of Education (Technical), State Scholarship Board and the Science and Vocational Schools Management Board.

Rural development and health received N4.776bn and N4.124bn respectively, while agriculture got N3.857bn.
