GOVERNOR GAIDAM EXPRESS CONCERN OVER HIGH RATE OF ACCIDENT ON OUR HIGHWAYS.

Yobe state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam expressed concern over the high rate of accident on our major highways.

He made the pronouncement at the launching ceremony of Yobe State Transport Corporation and Local Government Mass Transit Buses procured and distributed by the state government.

He stressed that in spite of efforts made through enlightenment campaigns and relevant laws on offenders to redress the situation, the rate of accident is very alarming.

I urged our drivers to avoid reckless driving such as over speeding, over loading, drunkenness and making phone calls while driving so as to achieve the desired objectives of ensuring safety.

Yobe state government procured 54 vehicles at the total cost of six hundred and twenty nine million naira to be distributed to Yobe State transport corporation and local government mass transit unit to alleviate transport problem.

Twenty, sixteen seater Toyota hiace buses each purchased at the cost of eight point five million naira totaling one hundred and seventy million naira are to be handed over to Yobe state transport corporation, while 34 four thirty seater buses each procured at the cost of 13.5 million naira totaling four hundred and fifty nine million naira were distributed to 17 local government area in the state.

The Governor assured the ;people of the state that the present administration will enable them not only sustain tempo but to consolidate efforts towards attaining effective and efficient public transport sector in the state.

In his address at the occasion, the Honourable Commissioner of Transport and Energy, Barrister Bala Haladu urged the general manager and the staff of Yobe transport corporation to ensure proper manager of these vehicles in order to reciprocate Governor Gaidam's good gesture.
