Former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the ACN National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and Governors of ACN-controlled states are among dignitaries that will grace the inauguration of the multi-billion Naira Mokola Flyover, Ibadan on June 25, 2013.

The foundation for the construction of the flyover was laid by the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on December 22, 2011.

The 640-metre flyover, the first to be constructed by any civilian administration in the state, has such accessories as standard one-metre-by-one-metre reinforced concrete drainage work on both sides of the overhead bridge and all the adjoining roads, beautification of the entire length of the roads as well as landscaping, street-lighting and rehabilitation of all the adjoining roads.

Aside improving the aesthetics of the axis, the overhead bridge is also expected to ease the perennial traffic snarl in the ever-busy heartbeat of the Ibadan city, reduce the usual conflict at intersections and consequently check incessant road accidents, loss of lives and man-hour wastage.

Other projects slated for inauguration on the same day include the ultra-modern motor park at Podo and the new business complex at Scout Camp, Molete, both in Ibadan, the state capital.

Governor Ajimobi, while speaking at the end of the pre-inauguration tour of the projects on Wednesday, said that the overhead bridge would be open to motorists immediately after the inauguration ceremony.

He told the people of the state to expect more developmental projects in the next two years, adding “we are now in a phase of consolidation; our people should expect bigger things; what we are witnessing now is a new-improved Ibadan and this is also being replicated in other major towns in Oyo State.

“In Oyo State, we are enlightened people; we don't want to play the old chop-I-chop politics. Our own politics is politics of development. You all can see the turn-around of Ibadan and other places without taking a dime as loan from anybody or organization,'' he said.

The governor, who described the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo as his role model, said that his administration would ensure the modernization of the state in all ramifications.

“We are the father of modern Oyo State. When we came in, we had a rural Oyo State. But we are now urbanizing the state. We are now joining the comity of states that are known for development.

“When Chief Obafemi Awolowo started, he changed the whole Western region. Now we are restoring, transforming and repositioning Oyo State to a modern state. All we want to do is to leave Oyo State better than we met it,'' he said.

The governor also assured the people of Apete that the Ijokodo-Apete Road currently undergoing reconstruction would be dualized and that another neighbourhood market would be sited at Eleiyele area.
