NIMET warning: Rivers House to revisit Emergency Readiness Bill

By The Citizen

Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET's, forecast of more rains this year, has compelled Rivers State House of Assembly to reconsider its rejection of a bill for a State Emergency Management Agency.

Consequently, the lawmakers have overwhelmingly supported a motion tasking the state executive to put proactive measures in place against a re-ocurrence.

Mr. Augustine Ngo (Abua/Odual Constituency), who moved the motion, reasoned that, 'Victims of the 2012 flooding are still suffering its impact. We cannot stop nature, but we must avoid applying another medicine after death by being prepared to minimise the impact.'
