FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RECIEVES DONATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THAILAND FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE FLOAD DISASTER OF 2012
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today received a donation from the Royal Thai Government for the victims of the recent flood disaster that afflicted part of the country. The donation was delivered to the Ministry a reception ceremony, held in the Honourable Minister's conference room in the premises of the Ministry.
Presenting the cheque, the Ambassador of Thailand to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr. Somchai Powcharoen, said that his government was making the donation of one million Bhat (approximately, 32,000 US Dollars), as a token and expression of sympathy with the government and people of Nigeria, in aid of the victims of last year's flood disaster in the country.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs – Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, MFR, Ambassador Kabir Garba, Under Secretary in charge of Administration and Finance, thanked the Thai Ambassador who was accompanied by Mr. Suwit-Soothijrapan, Minister Counsellor in the Thai Embassy. He said further that the donation to the flood victims by the Thai government will go a long way to underscore the very fraternal relationship between the nations. He concluded by asking the two – man Thai delegation to extend the warm greetings of the government and people of Nigeria to the government and people of Thailand.
It will be recalled that several countries and organizations have made similar donations, including the ECOWAS Commission.
