Mourinho hits back at critics, says they “tried to delete 16 years of my career”

Under-fire Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed football is “full of Einsteins” that “tried to delete 16 years of my career”. 

United got back on track to some degree and lined up a huge fourth-round tie with Man City with a laboured win against League One opposition, but Mourinho was understandably not swinging from the rooftops and he swerved several reporters and spoke only to rights-holders.

“We had a bad week,” said Mourinho. “I know that the world is full of Einsteins, I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career, they tried to delete an unbelievable history of Manchester United Football Club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that's the new football, it's full of Einsteins.

“We have three home matches now in a row and it is always good to be at home,” he said with games to come against Leicester, the Russian side FC Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League and then against Stoke City.

“If the fans have been disappointed with the last week, I understand completely but I am sure they will be behind the team like they always are,” he added.

United took the lead at Northampton through Michael Carrick, before Northampton equalised from the spot after Daly Blind's mistake. And they had to rely on the power of second-half subs Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford, who scored the third after Ander Herrera's long-range strike.
