Nigeria's Junior International 'Danny Uchechi' Signs For The National League Boreham Wood FC

By Hayley Haye

National League side Boreham Wood have signed Nigerian Junior international forward Daniel Uchechi following a successful trial period.

The 26-year-old, who has spent the last four years playing in Sweden, has agreed a one-year deal at Meadow Park.

Uchechi received his first international call up in the 2008 Intercontinental Cup in Malaysia. He was called up for an African Youth Championship qualifier in Senegal, and for both legs against Sudan, but had to pull out with injury.

He played three games by the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup for the Nigeria national under-20 football team and scored the opening goal during the FIFA U20 World Cup Round of Sixteen match between Germany and Nigeria at the Mubarak Stadium on October 7, 2009 in Suez, Egypt. Danny was also in the U23 dream team that failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics under Augustine Eguavoen.

Nigerian Uchechi had spells with Charlton and West Ham as a youngster and has also had stints at Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday and Aberdeen.

"Daniel brings versatility and strength to an ever improving squad," Wood boss Luke Garrard told the club website.

Boreham Wood FC also are looking to sign Yakubu Aiyegbeni although manager Luke Garrard admits signing Yakubu is a "long shot", despite the ex-Nigeria and Everton striker training with the club.
