SAN FRANCISCO, May 18, (THEWILL) – Spanish club, Sevilla, has won their third consecutive Europa League title on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory over Liverpool in Basel.

Liverpool travelled to St Jakob-Park with an army of fans and confident in their chances of a first Europa League trophy since 2001 after an impressive campaign in Europe's second tier competition.

Daniel Sturridge handed Liverpool a 35th-minute lead but Jurgen Klopp's men failed to build on it as Kevin Gameiro struck an equaliser immediately after half-time.

Sevilla right-back, Coke, then drilled Sevilla ahead on 64 minutes before adding his second goal of the game six minutes later as Unai Emery's side lifted the trophy for a record fifth time.

UEFA made history by using Hawk-Eye goalline technology in a Europa League final for the first time.
