Kalongii All Stars Football club confirmed their class and supremacy last Saturday at Port Harcourt Club (1928) football section pitch as the club defeated All Stars International football club in a penalty shoot-out to emerge winners of the 2015 Hon. Aye Pepple Independent All Stars Football Charity Shield 2015.

The Super cup tagged Charity Shield 2015 was a keenly contested event as both side showcased football artistry and resilience that left the mammoth audience wondering if players of both team were actually old legs or active professional footballers.

Kalongii All stars FC drew the first blood with the opening goal of the match when one of its attackers was roughly brought down inside the ALL stars 18 yard box, leaving the referee with no choice than to point to the spot for a penalty kick.

The succeeding penalty from the spot was scored by a Kalongii FC hand out a one goal lead to Kalongii FC with the advantage of a home ground as venue for the super cup tournament. The one goal lead stayed that way until the end of first half.

The second half started with a fiercer confrontation between the two teams bringing the best out of the goal keepers. However neither was able to surmount each other until late in the dying moments of the second half when a defensive blunder by Kalongii FC was latched onto by an ALL STARS FC attacker who made no mistake to slot home the equalizing goal for All stars International FC to end the match at one a piece.

There was no provision for extra-time, beside the evening darkness was coming up strong and the match officials opted for the decision to end the matches on penalties. With three penalties for each team, Kalongii All Stars FC was able to score all of their three while All Stars International FC could only score two missing one to hand out the trophy to Kalongii FC.

In a brief remark sponsor of the tournament, Hon. Aye Atamah Pepple said the Charity Shield tournament is a dress rehearsal to the main one day tournament coming up on 1st October 2015, at the newly refurbished No 1 field along Bende street in Port Harcourt main town.

He said already eight teams which includes, the 2014 defending champions, Kalongii FC, Ex Professionals FC, Cartel FC, Club 58 FC, All Stars International FC, Crystal stars FC, Amalgamated All Stars and new entrant ‘Bonny All Stars FC’ will be participating in this year’s edition.

“We have set the momentum rolling with this charity shield, and this shows the level of our preparedness for the competition. Part of myideology for the tournament is to contribute to a culture of sports that will foster brotherhood among individuals, people, cultures anddiversegroups in the society” he said..

“The Old Port Harcourt Independence All Stars Soccer tournament is also a sort of social responsibility for meaimed at giving back to society, an opportunity to assemble old time footballers and friends in Port Harcourt who perhaps have not been opportuned to see themselves, it is also intended to create a platform to make new friends and open new vistas of opportunities”, urging all and sundry to be at the mini stadium on October 1st to enjoy the game.
