Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he does not want goalkeeper Petr Cech to leave the Premier League champions.

The 32-year-old has only made 16 appearances this season, with Belgian Thibaut Courtois now first choice.

Cech’s agent recently said the Czech Republic international had been given permission to talk to other clubs.

“I keep saying I would like him to stay,” said Mourinho, who also confirmed Cech would play some part against Sunderland on Sunday.

Cech joined the club in 2004 from French side Rennes for £7m and was the club’s number one for 10 seasons, before being usurped by Courtois.

In his time at Stamford Bridge, he was won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one Champions League and a Europa League.

Cech has been linked with a move to rivals Arsenal, and could replace David De Gea at Manchester United if the Spaniard leaves for Real Madrid.

“In case he leaves, I have no preferences (where he goes),” added Mourinho. “I hope he is fit to play the last game of the season.”

‘Lampard a big loss for English football’

Mourinho also paid tribute to former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard who plays his last match in the Premier League before leaving for America’s Major League Soccer.

Lampard – the club’s record goalscorer – left the club at the end of last season to join New York City, before going on loan to Manchester City.

“He is a big loss for English football,” said Mourinho. “He was one of my best players ever. One of my best professionals ever.

“Frank is a Chelsea legend and a legend in the Premier League. I have to honour him and wish him the best in the United States.

“I hope he comes back to England as soon as possible because people like him makes this country much better.”
