Abati Says President Has Suspended Planned N5k Single Bill

SAN FRANCISCO, September 20, (THEWILL) – President Goodluck Jonathan has suspended the planned introduction of the controversial single N5000 note, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati said in a telephone chat with THEWILL today.

Abati said the federal government arrived at the decision so as to give the CBN more time to enlighten the general public on the initiative.

“For now, the full implementation is on hold," Abati said, adding that “President Jonathan has directed that the implementation of the new N5, 000 note be suspended for now. This is to enable the apex bank to do more in terms of enabling Nigerians understand why it proposed it in the first place."
