Marwa polled 15% of the votes cast and reached 25 % in only three local government council areas.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has congratulated Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd.) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Adamawa state.

President Jonathan in a statement urged Admiral Nyako to receive the fresh mandate given to him by the people of Adamawa State for a second term in office as a call to further duty in the service of his people and an immense opportunity to carry forward the policies, projects and programmes initiated during his first term to promote progress and development in Adamawa State.

“The President looks forward to continuing to work harmoniously with Admiral Nyako and the government of Adamawa State on the implementation of the federal government’s agenda for national transformation.

“He commends PDP National Executive Council members, members of the state executive of the party and all stakeholders of the party in Adamawa for working very hard to ensure that Admiral Nyako won convincingly on Saturday.

“President Jonathan also congratulates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the nation’s security agencies for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.

“He urges them to keep up the good work in other governorship elections scheduled to hold in Bayelsa State, Cross River State and Sokoto State this month,” the statement signed by Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati stated.

Also, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has urged all stakeholders in the Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite behind Governor Murtala Nyako who was re-elected for his second term in office in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

Reacting to the outcome of the election in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja, the former Vice President who cast his vote in Jimeta-Yola said with the election now concluded, all PDP members should work together as one family (just like they had done prior to the election) for the overall progress and development of Adamawa State.

According to him, they should put behind them personal bickering and acrimonies and join hands with Governor Nyako for the advancement of Adamawa State.

He said Adamawa State is a classic example of Nigeria’s complex ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, assuring that the nation stands to benefit from the success that will be achieved in this regard.

For this reason, he pointed out that Governor Nyako needed all the goodwill, cooperation and support of all people of Adamawa State in the challenges of undertaking the task of governance.

While congratulating Governor Nyako and the PDP in particular the Adamawa State chapter on Governor Nyako's re-election for a second term in office, Atiku Abubakar advised him (Nyako) to carry all stakeholders along rather than isolating or alienating any groups however small.

As Nigeria’s rainbow party, the Turaki Adamawa said the ruling PDP should lead the way in terms of internal cohesion, unity and harmony, adding that this should be of the immediate concerns of Governor Nyako.
