UNITAR TO TRAIN RIVERS LAWMAKERS
The Rivers State House of Assembly will partner with the United Nation Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) to ensure proper training and orientation in the process of law-making.
The Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Leyii Kwanee said this while receiving a delegation of UNITAR on behalf of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree, at the Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt.
He said that training is a necessary tool of capacity building which will improve the quality of law-making in the state adding that such positive suggestions from UNITAR would not be ignored.
The Deputy Speaker said the need for training has become imperative considering that some legislators are new and therefore needed proper orientation and training to perform creditably.
Earlier, the leader of the team, Dr. Larry Boms said that they were there to intimate the Assembly on plans to train the legislators.
He said that the training is aimed at equipping the lawmakers with relevant information to represent their constituents well and to develop sustainable systems and institutional practices that improve the effectiveness of the legislature.
