Security challenge:The way out

The recent incessant killings of helpless and innocent Nigerians in the northern parts of Nigeria has seriously called for rejuvenation of the security system across the country. Many Nigerians have been sent to their early graves for crime not committed or known. The state of security situation in Nigeria has grown beyond 'Boko Haramnology to Fulaninology' which vertically states that Nigeria as a country is no longer safe specifically the northern region. The callous killings of Nigerians in Jos Plateau indicated that the country is heading towards extinction or disintegration if the situation is not put under control now.

The northern elders and leaders seem to be adamant about the situation rather channeling all their problems to President Goodluck Jonathan for immediate action.Though the security situation is no longer religious affairs but pure terrorist attacks on vulnerable Nigerians with no just cause.

Property worth millions of naira has been destroyed by these so-called dreaded Islamic sect which scares foreign investors from investing in the northern parts of Nigeria. The present Nigerian economy is at a sorry state since the emergence of Boko Haram.

It is saddening that Jonathan has a President can no longer stand firmly to protect Nigerians from infamous killings in all ramifications.Even northerners are victims of these monotonous attacks in recent times. The major problem of security failure is that the population of Nigeria has outgrown the numbers of security agencies across the country.

Although some avid political observers assume that some powerful Nigerians are the sponsors of terrorist attacks in Nigeria in order to make President Jonathan's administration ungovernable. Clearly speaking, the killings of innocent Nigerians by these so-called unknown gunmen in the northern parts of Nigeria can make the country split into two or cause a civil war.

The mechanical derivation of killing unprotected Nigerians despite the efforts of the federal government to put a stop on terrorism has met a brick wall. Even the recent appointment of a northern Special Security Adviser has not prevent the killings in the region rather escalate the situation which indicates that some powerful leaders do not want the present national leadership to exist. It is of the opinion that the government cannot negotiate with suicide bombers or terrorists. It is a world problem of tackling terrorism at all levels of governance in Nigeria.

Finally , security threats across the globe has greatly affected the world economy in recent times. The high rate of immigrants coming into the country needed to be checkmated by our custom officers in our Nigerian borders and avoid being gratified by powers that be.The federal government need to improve on information technology by installing CCTVs to monitor illegal arms and ammunition into the country. The Nigerian security agencies needed to be highly remunerated to avoid bribery and corruption.Youth unemployment should be directly tackled by all levels of government now.BY GODDAY ODIDI. 08063458693,Public Affairs Analyst. @20 Oro street Ajegunle Apapa Lagos
