ONI’S AIDE CHIDES TINUBU OVER ASSASSINATION CLAIM

By Lere Olayinka

Chief Media Aide to Chief Olusegun Oni, former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre has advised former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Bola Tinubu to stop playing on the intelligence of Nigerians by raising false alarm that some people were after his life, saying; he should rather face the task of clearing his name of the allegation of breaching the law by operating foreign accounts while in office.

Ojo-Lanre, who reacted to claim by Tinubu that he was being targeted for assassination said he (Tinubu) should be made to prove to the security agents evidences of threat or attempt on his life to show to the world that he was not merely raising false alarm to curry sympathy from Nigerians.

He described as suspicious the timing of Tinubu's alarm, asking that; “Why should it be the time when the Code of Conduct Commission said he has a case to answer that he ran to the press, claiming that some people were after his life?”

“It is obvious that there must be more to this allegation than meet the eyes and it is necessary that it is thoroughly investigated by all relevant security agencies.

“For all intent and purposes, Tinubu, being a seasoned politician and crafty one for that matter may even be up to some evil plans against ACN perceived enemies and just using the alarm as a decoy to distract people's attention.

“Obviously, Tinubu is employing his media power to assault the public sensibilities and pull wool over the faces of Nigerians. His latest alarm must therefore be thoroughly investigated and if found to be a hoax, he must be prosecuted.”

While calling on the Code of Conduct Tribunal to commence prosecution of Tinubu without further delay, Ojo-Lanre said; “It is evidently clear that Tinubu has a case to answer and this much has been made clear by the Code of Conduct Commission.

“Even when he was first arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal five years ago, Tinubu never denied that he operated foreign accounts.

He only hide under the immunity clause, arguing that as a sitting governor, he was immune to criminal prosecution.

“Some of the foreign bank accounts listed against the ex-governor were; First Heritage Bank, Country Club Hills, Illionois, USA. Account

Name: Bola Tinubu. Account No. 263226700, Citibank NA New York, USA.

Account Name: Bola Tinubu & Compass Finance, an Investment Company Ltd with Account Nos: 39483134, 39483396, 4650279566, 00400220, 39936404, 39936383, Citibank International New York. Bola Tinubu and Account No: 71253670 among others.

“With facts like these already available to the Code of Conduct Commission, it is imperative that his (Tinubu) trial is reopened so that Nigerians, who already hold the belief that some people are untouchable, can, begin to have confidence in the system.”
