FULANIS THREATEN ANOTHER CRISIS IN PLATEAU

Following the death of another Fulani herdsman as a result of attack by some persons in Gero Village in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Federal Government has been called to take urgent steps to address the situation before another crisis ensues.

State Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Nura Muhammed  disclosed in Jos  that the Fulanis, who were constantly being victims of attack were fed up with the situation and were ready to protect themselves if government could not do so, for them.

He said apart from the man that was killed, two other people were injured in the attack which took place on Tuesday afternoon. 'They should know that Fulani herdsmen who are spread all over Africa are now aware of what is happening in Plateau State and are getting fed up with the way their members are being attacked and killed all the time.

For the sake of peace, both the state and federal government should come in urgently and control the situation. If not, our members would not  listen to us and take laws into their hands. We know how we suffer to calm them each time there was an attack on them,'he said.

According to him: 'It is not as if the Fulani cannot defend themselves but they have not reacted because we control them. Despite this, some people keep on coming to attack them. The state chairman explained that the latest attack took place while they were rearing their cows  and they suspected the attackers to be by the Irigwe people.

'They said the herdsmen know those who attacked them and had given the names of six people to the security agents hoping that the perpetrators would be arrested with immediate effect to give hope to the herdsmen.

The corpse of the victim was earlier deposited at the Air Force Military Hospital in Jos, before going  to the Central Mosque for the burial rite. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammed Lerama said the incident had been reported to the police and investigation was on.
