AHRC Urges Vigilance Amid Twin Tragedies: Bondi Beach Hanukkah Attack And Brown University Shooting

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) unequivocally condemns the reported terror attack against Jewish worshippers celebrating Hanukkah (Festival of Lights) at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Sixteen people were killed and forty-two others injured. This heinous act stands as the deadliest attack against the Australian Jewish community.

Mr. Ahmed Al-Ahmed, an Australian Muslim originally from Syria, risked his life to save others — a powerful reminder of humanity at its best. Bystander intervention often makes a substantial difference. Confronting terrorists is a shared duty, regardless of the identity of the perpetrator or the targeted community.

This horrific crime coincided with the mass shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Two students, Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook, were killed, and several others were injured. AHRC commends law enforcement agencies and first responders for their swift action in responding to the Brown University tragedy.

AHRC expresses its deepest condolences to the families of all victims and wishes the injured a full and speedy recovery, both in Australia and at Brown University.

AHRC reaffirms that the safety and security of our neighborhoods, cities, society, and nation is a shared responsibility between people and government.

AHRC urges responsible vigilance by all, especially faith-based institutions, during this holiday season. Collective awareness and preparedness are essential to safeguarding communities and ensuring that celebrations remain safe and peaceful.
