Kogi Community Turning To Ghost Town As Gunmen Wreak Havoc On Residents

In what seems to be a serious security breaches, there is growing insecurity in Isanlu Yagba East of Kogi State, The Nigerian Voice learnt.

It was gathered that gunmen have been wreaking havoc on the community with unchallenged impunity.

A resident of the community, who raised alarm of the spike of incessant attacks and kidnappings orchestrated by unknown gunmen in the area, lamented that there has been no action from the state government to stop the trend.

According to the information obtained by The Nigerian Voice, residents in the community have been facing serious security threat from suspected gunmen since 31st December, 2023.

It was learnt that two persons have been killed during one of the attacks in the area. Similarly, a man was brutally injured when attackers invaded his farm. Also, our source disclosed that one of the kidnap victims was released after coughing out 7million naira.

It was gathered that the absence of security personnel in the area is turning the community into a ghost town as people have started trooping out of the town to save their lives.

A source in the area said: “Since 31st December, 2023, hardly a day passes without someone being kidnapped.

“These incidents have already claimed 2 lives, 1 seriously injured old man who was attacked in his farm, one of the victims have been released after coughing out 7million naira. A teenager girl is still with the captors who killed her father during his kidnap, one other female was kidnapped yesterday evening on her way back from Yagba West.”

He added, “There has not been any visible action from the government since there is no presence of security personnel, the community is turning to a ghost town as people have started to vacate the town to save their lives.

“The people are crying out to government to come to their aid to combat and put an end to these ugly incidents.

“No one can truly say or tell the identity of the people carrying out these evil deeds.”
