AHRC Observes The International Day Of The World’s Indigenous People:

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the global community in recognizing and observing the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples which falls annually on August 9.

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is an important occasion to celebrate the Indigenous communities in America and in the rest of the world.

The Indigenous are a vital component of the world population. According to the United Nations, over 476 million indigenous people reside in 90 countries with several languages and different cultures.

Despite their cultural differences and languages, they face similar challenges around the world. These challenges include the struggle to sustain and preserve their way of life and to preserve their right to identity, traditional lands, territories, and natural resources.

“There is an increasing awareness of the injustices inflicted on the indigenous peoples around the world,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “Indigenous rights are part and parcel of the human rights struggle,” added Hamad.
