Next Monday, September 6 is Labor Day in the US and Canada. It is a day to celebrate the workers who play a major role in creating value in the economy. Their sacrifices have made it possible to have the economy and country that we have. We owe the workers of America a huge debt of gratitude.

While I encourage everyone to enjoy the holiday with friends and family, I caution that Covid-19 is still a public health crisis. We should continue to continue mask wearing indoors and urge those who did not get the vaccine to get it.

We all want to go back to normal. But it is not normal to want to ignore basic public health directives. I lost a dear friend to Covid. Covid is real and with the vaccine and following public health directives, we reduce the threat of the spread of the virus. We owe it to each other.

There is no question that we all deserve to enjoy the holiday. We can do so responsibly by following all public health directives. The threat to the health of our loved ones is real.

In the spirit of Labor Day in America, Canada and may other countries across the world, let’s make it a safe and pleasant Labor Day for all.
