Governor Willie Obiano says his government has designed a homegrown approach to bring the state out of recession. The governor disclosed this at Umueri when he performed the flagged off of the construction of a civic center at Umueri in Anambra East Council Area yesterday.

The Civic center was chosen by the Community under the State government's N20million per community "choose-your-project" initiative programme of the state government. The building would have two floors with floor space of 460 square meters and would accomodate a Library and an ICT Center.

He explained that the plan would be driven by Agriculture under which his administration was going to intensify support to farmers to enable them produce maximally.

Other measures he highlighted to include the reduction of some forms of taxes on the people especially the low income earners, as well as the injection of funds into the system through the various on-going projects of the government and the loans being distributed through the Anambra state Small Businesses Agency(ASBA).

Governor Obiano urged rural communities in the state to take full ownership of the projects his administration is executing in their localities under the initiative to ensure that the projects achieve the aim for which government introduced the initiative.

He visited also the Umunya community in Oyi council area where he flagged off construction of their own project, a Civic Center too.

There he urged the people to organize themselves in cooperatives to be able to access government's agricultural package.

He assured that his government has secured the funds for the Community Infrastructure Projects and that they will be completed within the specified period.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr Greg Obi said the present administration puts the people first, hence its decision to allow them choose what will be executed in their communities with the funds.

In his remarks, the President General of Umueri, Chief Pius Okonkwo thanked the governor for the project which he noted will also serve as a secretariat for the town Union and the Community's vigilante while his Umunya Counterpart, Chief Obi Ezeani said the attention the community is receiving from the state government will ensure that people of the community will remember him for the best reasons.

In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Mobilization, Mr Samuel Odinye who is from Umunya and a Community Leader from Umueri, Chief Chinedu Emeka observed that hitherto, such projects were done through contributions from the people, adding that aside other benefits, governor Obiano has by undertaking the project, given the people financial respite.
