BEVERLY HILLS, September 29, (THEWILL) – Factional National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has stated that he did not endorse Thursday's rejection of the yet-to-be-concluded result of Wednesday's governorship election in Edo state.

Sheriff, who spoke on Thursday through the Deputy National Chairman of his faction, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, said that the rejection of the result ahead of its declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was pre-emptive.

Chairman of the party in Edo state, Chief Dan Orbih, had earlier rejected the results of the election (http://thewillnigeria.com/news/edo-election-pdp-rejects-results-says-outcome-predetermined-by-inec-edo-govt/), basing their action on an allegation that the results were “fabricated and a pre-determined” by INEC and the Edo State government.

Dismissing this action, Sheriff said, “we will await the final announcement of the result, consult widely before making our decision public”, even as he pointed out that the national leadership was concerned about issues arising from the election, and called for restraint from members and supporters.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, Mr Anselm Ojezua, has dismissed the rejection of the awaited state governorship election results by the PDP as an act of a bad loser.

Speaking on Thursday in Benin, Ojezua insisted that the entire process of the election had been nothing but peaceful.

“This is just a case of a bad loser. It is a pity that the PDP expects to win in a state which it had run down.

“Though the announcement of the results is still ongoing, I commend INEC thus far.

“The process was very peaceful. INEC was efficient in delivery of materials to ensure that they got to locations on time,” he said, advising the opposition party to channel its grievances to the appropriate quarters.
