By Henry Ovie Ebireri

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya, has applauded the bravery, commitment and patriotism of nationalists who risked their lives to the pursuit of political emancipation and freedom of the country from colonialism and imperialism.

He also commended Nigerians for sustaining hope for a better nation.

“We have much to be thankful for and a lot more to be hopeful about” he said.

In his Independence message, Igbuya urged politicians to emulate the spirit of the nationalists, their dedication to duty, their precision and concept of national unity.

He implored Nigerians not to be incapacitated by the transient economic hardships.

Igbuya said something urgent, drastic and far reaching should be done to re-energize the shape and direction of the economy.

He urged financial experts and consultants to identify ways of attracting investments, ensuring better terms of trade and improving relations with creditors and development partners

In a statement on Monday in Asaba, Igbuya advised economists to find solutions to the current inflation, unemployment, labour apprehensions and continued dependence.

“No task can be greater than putting Nigeria on its feet again” Igbuya said.

Signed by his chief press secretary, Mr. Henry Ebireri, Igbuya appealed to political leaders and youths in the country to avoid any action capable of destabilizing the nation.

He enjoined Nigerians to work harder to enhance productivity, reduce unemployment and poverty and ensure prosperity.

Igbuya, a source of great pride and strength to Deltans at home and abroad, advised Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the cause of building a strong, united and viable nation.

“We have definite achievements and dividends of democracy to report” he said.

Known for his ingenuity, hard work and honesty, the presiding officer of the Delta State House of Assembly commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for focusing on meaningful development projects.
