Yarpti Condemns The Murder Of Port Harcourt Human Rights Activist Kenneth Atsuwete

A human rights group Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative (YARPTI) has strongly condemn the murder of Kenneth Atsuwete, a popular Port Harcourt based Human Rights Activist.

Mr. Atsuwete, an Itsekiri from Delta State and lawyer to the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, was assassinated on Monday morning at his house in Aluu, near the University of Port Harcourt.

The group in a statement sent to media houses described the Human rights lawyer’s murder as shocking. “We are calling for a thorough investigation into Atsuwete’s murder that will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. We urge the Nigerian authorities to investigate this murder and to protect human rights activists. A free civil society is a vital element of a stable and prosperous Nigeria.’’ Kenneth Uwadi the President of YARPTI said.

This murder is a cowardice act. It is essential that the authorities guarantee the safety of activists and journalists and that a thorough investigation into this crime ensures those who did this do not go unpunished. The group also called on Nigerians to condemn the too many cases of killings currently going on in the nation In the strongest terms.
