The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state now seems all set for the September 3rd primary election, as the league of local government chairmen and the state's party chairman, Hon. D.I Kekemeke, at a meeting in Akure yesterday (Sunday), resolved to stay united with the party's national leadership to conduct a free and fair primaries, as against the rumours of imposition.

The meeting was held to resolve the grievances that followed rumours of an imposition ahead of the primary, where the LG Chairmen had fingered Kekemeke to be instrumental.

While addressing the journalists at the end of the meeting, the leader of the Chairmen, Hon. Rasheed Badmus from Oke-agbe of Akoko Northwest, spoke on behalf of his 18 other colleagues who were present at the meeting, and said that they have resolved to work together with the state chairman and the national leadership of the party to achieve a free and fair primary election, adding that they were never against the endorsement of an aspirant, Dr. Olusegun Abraham, by some national leaders of the party.

"What we were against is imposition, not an endorsement. We know that it is not strange to get endorsements in a political setting. We are united with our state party chairman, Hon. D.I Kekemeke, and our national leadership, to conduct a free and fair primary election, where the delagates will together choose a candidate with the most experience to solve the economic crisis in our sate and make our party proud", Rasheed stated.

He added, "Most of our members in the local governments also understand this fact that endorsement is not a problem, they are even embracing this decision of our national leader, but, they also know imposition is not good for the democratic values of our party, and that is why we stood against the rumour".

In his own words, the State chairman himself stated that his LG chairmen were right to express their grievances about the rumours of an imposition, and that they are now on the same page with the party structure to elect a strong candidate who will win the governorship election come November.

"Right from the word go, there have been no crisis per se. My LG chairmen have the right to express their displeasure with the sad rumours of imposition, which was never an issue because there was none. We have met, and cleared the air, and for the umpteenth time, we together state that a free and very open primary election will be held to elect the best candidate who will lead our party to victory on the 26th of November ".

The APC primary has been postponed twice already, but is now scheduled to hold on the 3rd of September, 2016.
