The Visible Invincible Schizophrenia Of Rochas

By Dike Philip

“If evil be spoken of you and it be true, correct yourself, if it be a lie, laugh at it.”---Epictetus

This quote from Epictetus in 20 words best describes the latest rumours surrounding the “Ghost Slapping” and alleged death of the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

It is suffice to say that truly a word is enough for the wise and a negative rumour should pre-empt a positive response or action.

In as much as rumours may resemble propaganda, it is different from it. Rumours take root from incomplete information and in many cases foretell the feelings of the monger and the mongeree.

The strength of a rumour depends on how many people want it to be true. And overtime rumours have been attributed to having a spec of truth in it.

I do not ascribe to the rumours being peddled about the alleged mental breakdown of the governor who rumour mongers claim has become schizophrenic after he was allegedly found speaking to a non-existent human form in his palatial office.

According to Wikipedia, Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by abnormal social behaviour and failure to understand what is real . Common symptoms include false beliefs , unclear or confused thinking, hearing voices , reduced social engagement and emotional expression, and a lack of motivation.

From this definition the Ghost story as much as the Governor and his team may want to deny it, considering you missed your law exams as Emperor Iwuala noted, may as well be real as recent happenings in the state mirror a Governor who has lost touch of the realities on ground. It captures the fact that the Governor can no longer decipher what is necessary from what has become a luxury. It is in this state of alleged schizophrenia that my Governor woke up one morning and decided that he could as well add a few more lanes to the existing road networks in Owerri city citing that the master plan of the city suggests as much.

Let me water this post with another quote “A blunder at the right moment is better than cleverness at the wrong time.”

Carolyn Wells
Owelle, it will surprise you to see how your people your people have turned against you. In your first term you carried out well orchestrated blunders at the right time that people almost declared you their own chi thereby refusing the rhetoric of Obasanjo who once described you as a big thief

But in just a year into your new administration, after drinking all the fine wine and riding on the back of the down trodden, your good intentions have now resembled a more vampiric scenario. You insistence on following the Owerri City master plan in my enlightened opinion after market surveys and literate discussions, is more or less a rape of the emotions of the citizenry. In this “Buharization” you have chosen to take on a manifold of projects which will add little or no weight to the pocket of the common man at this time.

I don’t want to bother recounting the various unwarranted projects, like the freshly dilapidated Concorde tunnel or the destruction of the warehouse bridge. I shouldn’t even mention the below road level drainages at okigwe road or the massive future gullies of Mcc/Uratta road.

As much as your good intentions know no bound they are bound to be bad when civil servants have been relegated to farmers who without adequate training shall reap only nothing when can be paid to remain in their offices only if you will substitute one construction site for that.

Let me borrow the words of Sharon Alder, The most confused you will ever get is when you try to convince your heart and spirit of something your mind knows is a lie.

Long Live Imo State.
