SAN FRANCISCO, August 24, (THEWILL) – The former Governor of Borno State and factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, has dismissed the allegation that he is the sponsor of Boko Haram terrorist organisation.

The Borno state Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Hon Kaka Shehu Lawan, had accused Sheriff of being responsible for the growth of the dreaded Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, calling for his arrest and prosecution.

Lawan made the allegation on Tuesday at one of the sessions at the ongoing annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Port Harcourt, adding that Sheriff's over his alleged role in the emergence of Boko Haram will assuage the feelings of millions that have been dislocated by the terrorist actions of the dreaded Islamic group in one way or the other.

However, responding to the allegation, Sheriff, through his Spokesman, Inuwa Bwala, described the allegation as “rubbish” saying that he is one of the biggest victims of the organization having lost three of his brothers to the terrorist group.

Bwala revealed that Sheriff has instructed his lawyers to take appropriate measures against the Attorney General for the unfounded allegations and accused officials of the present Borno state government as folks who are more likely to be the sponsors of the sect.

“We need to state without any fear of contradiction that the Attorney General is both mischievous and being economical with the truth,” Bwala declared.

“He is trying to cover up the fact that the agents of Borno Government are more likely to be sponsors of the Boko Haram Sect.

“Sheriff is more vulnerable to Boko haram because he has his three brothers killed by the sect. It is illogical for somebody who had lost three of his brothers to the sect to be their sponsor.

“We advise him to go and read the history of the emergence of Boko Haram so that he will be saved from going before his fellow lawyers and engaging in this macabre dance.”
