Re: Buhari Did Not Receive Pension And Gratuities

By Usman Santuraki

Reading the above statement by the presidency issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President Muhammadu Buhari, that he did not receive a dime as pension and gratuities since he was overthrown as the military Head of State over thirty years ago sound alarming. What made it alarming is the fact, that how does President Muhammadu Buhari, live his life all these years, while it is an open secret, that he has not engage in any business? Is the President Muhammadu Buhari, excluded from the record of the Nigeria Army?

These are tenable questions on the mind of so many Nigerians because he live a life, that does show, that he is not a poor man by even sending his children to schooled abroad. It is curious for the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to even go further, that the President Muhammadu Buhari, never enjoyed any paraphernalia as an ex Head of State such as cars. But during the height of the insurgency, the President was attacked in Kaduna by Boko Haram and he survived the attack, but his jeep was badly damaged.

When he came on board as the President and EFCC is investigating the Dasukigate, it was publicly say, that the President Muhammadu Buhari also benefited from arms scandal as the previous administration has compensated with $300,000 for the damaged jeep and some even alluded, that the car was given to him by the previous in his position as a former Head of State. Thousands came in to defend the President including the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, that he was not given the money but the car was his right and privilege as a former Head of State.

If what the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity issued now is true, then there is a big contradiction on all what the President Muhammadu Buhari, has been saying prior to his election. What the spokesperson of the President need to understand, is the fact, that there are a lot of Nigerians, that has been taking note on what the President said before and now. This is what the President Muhammadu Buhari, is suffering today as problem saying one thing now and saying a different thing tomorrow. There is the need his media to draw his attention to the fact, that as a public figure, he is subject to public scrutiny. On his assumption, he say, that he would declare his assets publicly, but later reneged on that.

It is imperative for the President Muhammadu Buhari, and his media managers not hoodwinked the people with what can best be described as tissues of lie just to portrayed him as a saint. How can one described this, that for a man who attained the rank of Major-General cannot be paid pension and gratuities by the army. Until the army authorities confirmed the position, no one can believe, that he was not paid his pension and gratuities more than thirty years after retirement.
