Dokpesi Is Good

By PDP Students' Coalition || Secretariat, Rivers State University Of Science & Technology, Port Harcourt

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press!
I thank and salute all of you seated in this hall for your response to our call even though it was unprecedented.

I also want to thank the few members of my executives who turned up for the meeting yesterday subsequent upon is this release.

The PDP Students’ Coalition has been the Umbrella body of all the student’s bodies who shares and holds on to the ideals, manifestoes, and principles of the Peoples’ Democratic Party. And who have been working assiduously with the leadership of the party at the various levels to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the party.

The PDP Students’ Coalition has always supported the views of the leadership of the party and was waiting for a new leadership that was to be ushered in the previous national convention which was boycotted by the then National Chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff. Though, the leaders who were present did the needful and appointed a national Caretaker committee which was headed by a dogged and well respected statesman-Sen. Ahmed Markafi.

This Coalition has and will always recognize this leadership as the head of the party. We also appreciate the efforts he has impacted on the party. And we are highly optimistic that the August 17th Convention scheduled to hold here in Port-Harcourt will actually be successful.

It is on the premise of the convention that this release is borne out. But first, we are joining hands with the well meaning stakeholders of the party to plead with the Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff led faction to sheathe their swords and work with this present leadership so as to make the party win the Edo state election by fielding only one candidate and subsequently plan and win the 2019 general election.

Secondly, we are calling on the Southern leaders of the party not to micro Zone the positions given to the Southern part of the country more especially the position of the National Chairman.

Our attention is drawn to a Press Statement signed by a supposed youth body supporting the party from Osun State. We out rightly condemning the statement. It does not augur well. High Chief (Dr.) Raymond A. Dokpesi is a well respected member and an esteemed statesman. He doesn’t need to be reminded that he has an alleged case of corruption with the EFCC. Remember he has often said that the alleged money of corruption was for media broadcast on his channel and radio stations which is highly justifiable. And he has also said that that case with the EFCC will not affect his candidature. It is not a force to support all candidates, if he is not the choice of the youth body, no problem. Don’t just go about trying to dent his image. And he is and has not made anti-peace statement.

Though, the coalition has not decided who to through her big weight on for the position of the National Chairman but we have decided irrevocably that we are supporting Comr. Wolimoh Olajide for the position of the National Youth Leader of the Party. He is tested and trusted. He is capable of leading the Youth wing of the party as he has a strong, reliable and consistent relationship with the youths and he is a rallying point when it comes to the youth affairs.

Lastly, we want to tell those who are seeing the involvement of students in partisan politics as baseless, unfounded and illogical to have a re-think. This is because there is no member of the Coalition that is less than 18 years of age. Thereby, making us eligible to partake in the affairs of our country, moreover, we are major stakeholders of the nation.

Long Live the PDP Students’ Coalition!
Long Live the Peoples’ Democratic Party!!
Long Live Nigeria!!!
Signed
