Imo Bilie Initiative For Social Justice (Ibin) Reacts To The Okigwe Re Run Election

The leading pro democracy civil society group in Imo state, Imo Bilie Initiative for Social Justice (IBIN) has rejected the outcome of the Okigwe Senatorial re run election conducted on Saturday the 23rd of July 2016.

In a press statement issued in Owerri by the group, it called the result released by INEC so far as fraudulent and non reflective of the result from the booths, describing the action of INEC in this election as the worst so far in the history of election rigging in the country.

The press statement signed by Activist Aku Obidinma (Abdul) and Comrade Uzochukwu Chukwuebuka, the National coordinator and secretary respectively decried the use of government resources and machinery by Governor Rochas Okorocha who is still owing workers and pensioners in ensuring that the mandate of Okigwe people was thwarted.

The group who monitored the election condemned a situation where the collation officers disappeared as at the time genuine election results from the booths were to be submitted at the collation center only to appear at the middle of the night to declare doctored results.

The statement condemned the partiality and compromise of INEC in the election which according to her poses great danger for our democracy.

They called on the security agencies especially the EFCC to immediately investigate the INEC officers in charge of the election while they also called on Chief Athan Achonu to boycott the Thursday rerun and proceed to the tribunal to challenge the charade.
