Following the incessant reports of fraudulent activities carried out by some miscreants who parade themselves as journalists in the FCT for several years, the FCT police under the leadership of the FCT Commissioner of Police Alkali Usman have cracked down on this group of imposters.

This arrest was connected to a tip off by a journalist (name withheld) who had alleged that his camera and laptop was stolen inside his vehicle when he attended an event at the NAF Event Centre in Jabi on Wednesday 20th of July 2016. According to reports the victim had previously been threatened by some of the suspects at an earlier event where he was severely warned about exposing them and their escapades to unsuspecting members of the public whom they specialize in extorting money under the pretense of being journalists for several years.

On this particular occasion the victim found one of the imposters known as I.K standing by his car when he later discovered that his camera and laptop was conspicuously missing. This prompted him to quickly alert the security personnel on duty at the event centre who nabbed the suspect and subsequently used him to arrest the other suspects.

Although investigation is still progress as our reporter learned that the FCT Central Area Police in still in search of two other members of this syndicate known as “Baba Egbon” and “Lucky” are still at large and seriously wanted in connection to this particular crime and several others even as new revelations of their antics continue to emerge from various complainants one of which includes how they eloped with nearly half a million from Edo APC primary elections under the same guise as journalists.

Other members of this cartel arrested include Segun aka Olofin, Joshua Utomi and Haji. The case according to an anonymous source at the police station will soon be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded as the new IGP Mr. Ibrahim K. Idris is said to be promoting a new policing policy of timely and meticulous conclusion of investigation to aid immediate commencement of trial.
