The First Lady   Aisha Buhari  has sued Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state over allegations that she was  involved  in the Halliburton scandal.

Reports indicate that the  governor was served the court summons on Wednesday.

Fayose had in a statement about two months ago accused the president’s wife of being the “Aisha Buhari” who was involved in the bribery case involving a U.S lawmaker,Williams Jefferson.

The governor had backed up his allegation with a copy of a judgement by a US court in which the said Aisha Buhari was indicted for wiring money to Jefferson, but there was no other evidence to show that the person involved in the case was the same Aisha the president’s wife.

But curiously nobody has been able to identify the actual person being referred to in the judgement.

Mrs Buhari issued a  five-day ultimatum  to the governor demanding a full retraction of the widely-circulated material issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi.

The Nigerian constitution however provides the governor immunity against criminal prosecution.

But the governor countered that he was standing by his earlier allegation.

Meanwhile, the United States government has said  it has no information  on the alleged criminal offence committed in the country by Mrs Buhari, but that again is no categorical statement on the case..
