Osun APC Elders Council Commences Assessment Of Aregbesola's Projects...

The Elders' Council of the All Progressive Congress (APC), otherwise known as Igbimo Agba, Osun Chapter, has identified youth unemployment as the cause of most social vices such as restiveness, insurgency, kidnapping, drug trafficking, rapping, robbery and corruption in Nigeria.

This was just as the group of elders of the party commenced an on-the-spot assessment of the projects of the Rauf Aregbesola administration in the three senatorial districts of the state.

In a communique signed by its Chairman, Engineer (Chief) Sola Akinwumi after its July monthly meeting, the elders' council said the report a committee set up on youth affairs observed that youths face a lot of challenges in terms of access to equal opportunities in the nation.

Part of the projects already visited by the group include the BSI Akande Trumpet Interchange Bridge, Gbongan, the Gbongan-Akoda Road, Iwo High School, in Iwo, and several others in the West Senatorial district.

The council also ratified the terms of reference for the three committees constituted last month including Strategy and Security; Finance and Youth Affairs Committees respectively.

It resolved to gather information about party activities across the state, take necessary steps to resolve the problems and report to Igbimo Agba where such could not be solved immediately for appropriate action and advise the council from time to time as may be required on ways to strengthen the party towards ensuring optimal performance of our government.

The communique read: "To provide general re-orientation for the youths – socially, politically, psychologically, morally and economically etc. through training, workshops and empowerments.

"To enhance their values as leaders of tomorrow.

Igbimo Agba received and reviewed the report of the committee on youth affairs and observed that youths face lots of challenges in terms of access to equal opportunities, jobs, and having a voice in decision making which affects their lives.

"These have led to most, if not all, social vices such as restiveness, insurgency, kidnapping, drug trafficking, rapping, robbery and corruption.

"To change this trend, Igbimo Agba, as parents, leaders and elders, has taken up the challenges of General re-orientation, Skills acquisition, vocational training and empowerment."

The communique also said the council received and reviewed the report of committee on the state owned tertiary institutions and thereafter put machinery in motion for the implementation of its recommendations.

At the Bisi Akande Bridge, the group commended the Aregbesola administration for what it called a visionary project adding that the project is one of those that will lift Osun into the next phase of development.
