Again, AGF shuns Senate Committee summons

By The Citizen

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, AGF, Abubakar Malami, on Thursday failed again to appear before the senate committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters to defend the charge he filed against the senate president, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy,  Ike Ekweremadu at an Abuja high court. Although, Malami sent a representative, the committee did not give him audience.

Recall that last Tuesday, the senate had summoned Malami, but he failed to honour the invitation. He had written the senate on 23rd June, 2016, whereby he requested for an adjournment of the meeting of the committee, which was supposed to hold on Thursday, June 23, 2016, to enable him prepare his response. But he failed to show up at today's summon.

However, While condemning the action the attorney-general, the chairman, Senate committee on Judiciary, human and legal matters, David Umaru said 'The purpose of this hearing was to defend Nigeria's democracy but the attorney-general has faulted the invitation of the senate again.'

Also speaking, a committee member, Chukwuka Utazi, described the action of the AGF as a slap in the face of the senate. 'This is a slap in the face of the senate as the AGF has refused to appear before the committee after being summoned,' he said. Vanguard
