MAITURARE TO STUDENTS—Go Beyond Your Lecture Halls, Expand Your Thinking And Make The World A Better Place With The Noble Stamp Of IBBUL

The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, has on Thursday called on Students of the University to go beyond their respective lecture halls by extending and expanding their horizons as well as thinking to enable them contribute their collective quotas towards making the world a better place with the stamp of the University.

The Vice Chancellor made the call in Lapai while declaring open a one day ICT-CAREER FAIR with the theme “BUILDING A STRONG CAREER MAXIMIZING ICT” organized by the ICT Department in collaboration with the SUG, FCS, MSSN, NACOMSS and CLICK FM that was held at the University’s New Auditorium opposite the School Library of the main campus.

He stated that, the University since its inception in 2005 has made strides in different areas of life and societal improvement, ICT inclusive. The ICT revolution has redefined the education landscape, making learning so much easier and fun. You can now receive lectures online, receive and submit assignments through email and so much more.

He noted that “the world is certainly becoming a global village and universities in developed countries of the world have gone beyond just teaching already existing facts and theories to making ground breaking discoveries for the good of human existence and I look forward to having such outstanding feats in this university where my students will fully explore, utilize as well as maximize the use of ICT in their educational activities”.

He re-echoed that, the school management is putting a lot of effort towards improving the penetration and usage of ICT by all members of the University community. His words "our topmost desire is to produce graduates who are not just professionals in their chosen fields but also very proficient in the use of ICT-highly ICT savvy. Through the ICT Unit, we have deployed an e-learning solution on the university internet which is expected to change the way we teach and learn" the VC said.

He further disclosed that, the school management has also increased the bandwidth subscription from 14Mbps to 180Mbps to ensure that the browsing experience of staff and students is greatly enhanced. Though we still have challenges especially with power, we are working round the clock for sustainable solutions, he maintained.

Reiterating his commitment towards reforming the University’s learning activities with ICT fully integrated, the VC said “I must commend the organizers of this event for their thoughtfulness and complementing our efforts towards making IBB University the University of Choice, 100% driven by ICT. I also want to challenge you to ensure that ICT is injected into the vein of every member of this University community, I assure you our support to ensure that this is achieved successfully” he said.

The IBBU ICT-CAREER FAIR, which is also a community development project under the NYSC, was organized with an aim to empower students with proper and adequate career details while motivating them to bring out the best in them as well as educate them on how to maximize the availability of Information and Communication Technologies, ICT in achieving their career goals.
