Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) Marks 2016 World Environment Day; Restates Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
The Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC), leader in the non-alcoholic beverage industry, has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja, in a tree planting exercise to mark World Environment Day on June 5, 2016. NBC also supported the Lagos and Edo State Zonal Offices of the Ministry of Environment in a public lecture and symposium to mark the day set aside to raise global awareness and take positive environmental action to protect and nature our planet.
In a Company statement, Director of Legal, Public Affairs and Communications for NBC, Sade Morgan, said, “The World Environment Day is a great opportunity to collaborate with our stakeholders in protecting our environment, while reinforcing our Company’s commitment towards a sustainable future. NBC also supported the public lecture organized by the State Ministry of Environment in Edo and Lagos to mark 2016 World Environment Day”.
Speaking to stakeholders during the tree planting exercise at Tobix Garden in Abuja, NBC Plant Manager, Mrs. Ola Adaramoye, while presenting on Preserving the Environment through Tree Planting, emphasized the significance and important role trees play in preserving the environment.
Other stakeholders that were present at the tree planting exercise in Abuja were the Honourable Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed, the Minister of State for Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jubril, officials from other environmental regulatory and enforcement agencies, schools and stakeholders in environmental preservation.
In a related development, NBC supported a Special 2016 World Environment Day Lecture held by the Lagos State Zonal Office of the Ministry of Environment. The lecture brought together individuals, students, government and non-governmental organization. market representatives and businesses to raise awareness about key environmental issues and challenges. The event took place at the Ministry of Environment, Games Village, Surulere, Lagos, while a World Environment Day Symposium took place in Ogba Zoo and Nature Park in Benin, the Edo State capital.
There is an urgent need for a clean environment, getting people to live with planetary boundaries and ensuring a healthy future is important for environmental sustainability. As an environmental steward, NBC’s tree planting gesture in Abuja and other support provided to enrich public knowledge and drive environmental best practices at the 2016 World Environment Day is part of the biggest global call by the United Nations and mobilization for action towards environmental sustainability.
