Army top brass meet over alleged plot to topple Buhari

The chief of army staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, met with top commanders of the Nigerian Army on Friday to review the security situation in the country.

According to a report by Naij.com, an online news portal, the meeting was convened ostensibly  to discuss the recent allegations about a military coup to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari's government.

The report indicates that the meeting, which was  held under the chairmanship of Buratai and was attended by the general officers commanding the seven divisions of the Nigerian army, the principal staff officers and operational commanders across the country, was to affirm the military support for president Muhammadu Buhari.

Maj. Gen Adeniyi Oyebade, the general officer commanding 1 division of the army in Kaduna state, was quoted as saying,  “Like you all know, the Chief of Army Staff summoned his top commanders across the Army for a quick meeting this morning. Essentially, the meeting was to review the security situation in the country, and to also let us know some of the reorganisation that has taken place over the last few days.”Nigeri Delta Avengers claimed in a recent release that they were approach by some military officers to help in removing President Buhari from office.

They alleged that officers are angered by the public disgrace of its officers in the current investigations of fraudulent arms dealings during the immediate past administration under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
