Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Sunday, said he had kept faith with his promises to better the lot of his people in spite of the harsh economic situation in the country.

Ugwuanyi who spoke at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu while marking this year's Democracy Day noted that despite the dwindling economic fortunes, he had not slacked in providing democracy dividend.

'I believe that a critical appraisal of our actions and achievements within this past one year, will show that we have not only kept faith with these promises despite the severe economic difficulties confronting our nation today and we are poised to do even much more,' he said.

The governor disclosed that revenue accruing to the state from the federal account had fallen to less than 38% of what it used to be, but said he was not deterred from meeting the obligations of the state to its citizenry.

He added that 'the situation has become so bad that many states are unable to pay salaries and meet other obligations.'

The governor however pointed out that not withstanding bleak economic reality, 'we were able to embark on massive development of urban and rural roads across the state in fulfilment of our promises to create more urban centres, enhance rural access and boost economic activities in every corner of Enugu State.'
