The Chairman Of Ogbia Local Government Council,Hon. Ebiango Egain, Putting The Records Straight On The Collaborative Efforts Between The Council And The State Government On The Payment Of The Salaries Of Teachers In The Area

By Basoene James

The attention of the Ogbia Local Government Council has been drawn to a media report alleging a purported accusation of the state government for being responsible for the dramatic increase in the monthly deduction of the allocations accruing to Ogbia local government council for the payment of salaries of primary school teachers.

We wish to state here that this information, which was cleverly crafted by some disgruntled elements is not only untrue, baseless and condemnable, but was a calculated attempt to bring the local government council and the state authority into gratuitous collusion.

What was stated in an earlier refutal made by the Ogbia United front, which has been misinterpreted in the social media, was only to set the records straight and was never an indictment of the state government.

While we would not want to join issues with those responsible for this misinformation and deliberate spread of falsehood, we wish to make it abundantly clear that, the various successes recorded in the past on teachers’ welfare had been a collaborative effort between the state government and the local government council.

While the government is very empathic with the sufferings of the teachers and other workers, and it is doing everything humanly possible to address the current challenges, people should not use the occasion to engage in activities that will create disaffection, with a view to slowing down the process.

We, therefore, warn those involved in the propagation of this falsehood, using various media platforms to desist forthwith. Enough is enough. With the progress recorded so far, we are very confident that, very soon this issue of non-payment of salaries, will become history.

We also appreciate the disposition of the state governor and the various efforts made so far to move the state forward.

Signed:
Hon. Ebiango Egain
Chairman, Ogbia Local Government Council
