Enugu State govt to boost education sector …over 300 primary, secondary schools for renovation/reconstruction

The Enugu State Government says it has concluded plans to institute uniform curriculum for all levels of its education sector.

The state has also set machineries in motion for the renovation/reconstruction of 300 primary and secondary schools in parts of the state as another way of boosting the sector.

The State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, announced this while briefing newsmen after the Executive Council meeting held on 25th May 2016 at Exco Hall Government House Enugu.

He stated that government took the decision following the poor

performance of pupils and students in schools in recent times in the state.

Udeuhele explained that in view of the decision, government had

equally approved the award of contract of Action Plan of 4th quarter

2011 - 2nd quarter 2013 UBEC/ENSUBEB intervention project to genuine and successful contractors.

He noted that with this approval, more than three hundred secondary

and primary schools in the state would be renovated/constructed to

ensure a good teaching and learning environment for the children.

According to him, the Exco had also approved a memorandum on the

urgent need for monitoring the performances of teachers and their

pupils to measure their achievements in public schools as a way of

improving the standard of education in the state.
The Exco spokesperson, Dr. Udeuhele, outlined other approvals to include, the engagement of Paradise-Palm Limited to offer consultancy services to the state government on outdoor advertisement in the state.

He explained that following the dwindling economy and the lean

resources available for government activities, the measure was to take

the beverage of the expertise of the company towards generating and

increasing the revenue base of the sector.
Also approved, was the repositioning of the Enugu State Marketing Company Limited for greater growth and economic development of the

state following its under utilization occasioned by bad management.

In view of the above, the Hon Commissioner for Commerce and Industry has been directed to place an advert for the position of competent General Manager and ensure that best hands are engaged towards turning around the company and making it a major source of revenue generation for the government.

Commissioner Udeuhele who thanked the people of Enugu State for their

support and prayer to the present administration led by Governor

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, noted that the council had equally approved a draft bill for a law to enable Enugu State Government to raise internal loan from the capital market through the issuance of securities in the form of registered bond.

He noted that the measure was to enable the state government to

execute the special development projects set aside in the 2016

appropriation law.
The Information Commissioner was  accompanied during the press

briefing by the Education Commissioner, Prof. Uche Ezeh who threw more lights on the importance of monitoring and supervising the teachers through their note of lessons for improved educational sector in the

state.
