ASUU Donates Foodstuff To IDPs In Adamawa

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has donated assorted foodstuff and detergents to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Damare camp near Yola.

Presenting the trailer load of items which comprised bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil and cartons of soap at a ceremony, the Yola Zone Coordinator of ASUU, Dr Musa Abdullahi said the gesture was part of the union's national body effort to complement government in catering for the IDPs.

Abdullahi who was represented by Dr Augustine Anthon, said ASUU had from January to date expended over N40 million on welfare of IDPs in the North East.

"The union had also assisted Nyanya bomb blast victims with N5 million while staff of Adamawa State University Mubi affected by the insurgency were given N26 million assistance.

"We are also trying to reach out to victim camps in Plateau and Edo states.

"All those gestures by the union national body is solely supported by contributions from members." Abdullahi said.

While re-iterating the commitment of ASUU to welfare of IDPs, Abdullahi said the union was also planning to reached out to IDPs staying outside camps with friends and relations.

Responding on behalf of the IDPs, Mallam Modu Goni, lauded ASUU for the donation and urged other unions to emulate them in making the IDPs feel at home.

Goni assured judicious use of the items for the overall benefit of the IDPs in the camp.
