The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a former Governor of Kaduna, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, as the party's caretaker national chairman.

Our correspondent in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the National Convention was earlier scheduled to hold, reports that the party also appointed Senator Ben Obi as the national secretary of the party.

The new appointees have been mandated by the party to organise another convention within 90 days.

Our correspondent also reports that the PDP mandated the North to produce the party’s flagbearer in 2019 presidential elections.

It should be recalled that the erstwhile National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, had announced the suspension of the party's national convention following a court order to that effect.
