Nigeria’s energy sector was again dealt a huge blow on Friday when suspected Niger Delta militants  blew up another section of an NNPC gas trunkline behind Salvation City near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Community sources said the the incident happened at about 2am on Friday, with the suspected militants using dynamites and explosives to carry out the attack.

The incident was confirmed by a monarch in one of the communities in the area who stated that houses in his area were shaken as a result of the blast.

Although, a military source around the area confirmed the incident, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force in the region, Col. Isa Ado, could be reached for comment, he declined to take calls to his mobile phone and did not reply text message requesting his reaction.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said he ordered a heightened military presence in the restive Niger Delta region to deal with a resurgence of attacks on oil and gas facilities, a day after yet another pipeline explosion.
