Striving To Leave Lasting Legacies

To be radical is a matter of being passionate with the course to make remarkable difference that will bring about a change in both attitudinal approach to things and general psychological disposition of both the led and the leader. Though gentle, but firm, spoken but witty and above quintessential example of focused leadership, when he was elected as the Executive Governor of Niger State, he knew that his mission was, and carved out the most appropriate factice to actualize his mission hence the strides recorded so far in office.

Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, an accomplished public servant, veteran politician, an exceptional Nigerian to the core, a political leader of an unblemished reputation, a pathfinder to the weak and downtrodden, an administrator par excellence, an avowed protector to the voiceless, a man with cognate ambition to make the difference with an upstair full of knowledge, understanding and wisdom to show for his efforts and sacrifices.

In history, there are those whose achievements tower over others, not because they did what others couldn't do, but because they did theirs spectacularly beautiful and different, baring all odds. This perhaps captures the enormous contributions, sacrifices and effort of ALHAJI ABUBAKAR SANI BELLO, as a development oriented leader.

Flying on the wings of an eagle, as an astute administrator who has sets on big dreams and working hard to actualize them, Governor Abubakar S. Bello, proved that with devotion, sacrifice, patient, hard work and commitment to excellent and exemplary leadership, one is able to achieve where others failed.

Determined and hard as a nail yet compassionate, amiable and kind for this veteran administrator and a seasoned politician, anything and everything is achievable with hard work and today he has clearly distinguished himself spectacularly different, baring all odds. This perfect example of a gentleman has not only carved a niche for himself but has also enshrined his name in what could pass for the hall of fame setting a standard men craved for.

A humble manager of men and resources, like a colossus, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello amiable man of purpose, vision and mission. Abdulberqy U Ebbo wrote and I quote;

"There’s a well-understood correlation that as the economy of a country improves, so the health of its citizens improves. What may be less obvious is that the opposite is also true, improving the health of a nation’s citizens can directly result in economic growth, because there will be more people able to conduct effective activities in the workforce.

Below are the steps taken so far by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to curb health challenges facing the people,this is also inline with his administration's policy thrust of providing good health care services to the people.

1. Governor Bello’s administration designed a Health Reform policy called NIGER-HEALTH 1.0, a holistic healthcare policy that will cater for the needs of all citizens from primary to advance level. The idea is to have a functional system from where everyone chooses to access healthcare service in Niger State depending on his or her need.

2. Considering the importance of Primary Health Care Centre, PHC, as the first entry point for healthcare seekers and where 70% of Nigerlites access Healthcare services, the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s led administration has finalized plans to Operationalized One Focal, Functional, well Staffed and Equipped, Primary Healthcare Centre, PHC, in each of the 274 wards of the State in order to bring closer, adequate, accessible and affordable healthcare services to Nigerlites from the grass-root level. For a pilot take off, 6 PHC’s, 2 each from the 3 senatorial districts have already been selected and work has commenced with an implementation committee inaugurated to ensure effectiveness.

3. In collaborative efforts, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has Signed a 1.3 Billion MOU with the United Nation Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF, to combat reproductive, maternal newborn, child health and nutrition services in the State.

4. Governor Bello also gave directives that, his administration’s activities must be community-based and oriented, making the 2016 commemoration of the World Malaria Day celebrated in Gussoro Community for the first time ever.

5. Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello visits the Gynecology Ward of Minna General Hospital 3 times in a week, an attitude she has consistently maintained since she voluntarily and compassionately took up the job of a Gynecologist Consultant with Minna General Hospital as way of contributing her quota to her State.

6. Niger State among the States with highest hard to reach settlements, Governor Bello’s administration with collaboration with Canadian Government International Development Agency through UNICEF targeted 3,400 hard to reach places and 550 settlements from 14 Local Government Areas of the State on how to access healthcare services; immunization, ante-natal care, nutrition and treatments of childhood illnesses to mention but a few.

7. Governor Bello’s administration has already commenced the project of having 1 GENERAL HOSPITAL in each of the 25 Local Governments of the State to complement the 1 FUNCTIONAL PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CENTRE

8. Governor Bello also delegated a team, with the Commissioner of Education and Health to IBB University Lapai, to inspect the proposed Land for the establishment of a teaching hospital at Cheche, in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

9. Governor Bello’s administration initiated a Clinical Audit base on Global Best Medical Practice for routinely check and balance of service delivery of Health Facilities as well staff welfare and professionalism.

10. Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s administration in collaboration with International Islamic Relief Organization to conduct FREE EYE SURGERY AND OPERATION for Nigerlites suffering from Eye Problem, Poor Vision, Cataract to mention but a few.

11. Governor Bello made Funds available for the completion of Maternal and Neonatal Wing of Minna General Hospital which will begin operation in few weeks to come.

12. On Manpower so far, 70 Nurses and 40 Doctors have been approved by Mr. Governor.

13. On Combating Tuberculosis, the Niger State Government has adopted very key strategies that are pivotal to addressing the burden of TB by establishing a TB Disease Control Centre and Programme for regular

sensitization and awareness campaigns with active surveillance for case detection. The Health facilities well equipped to be able to diagnose TB, manage and treat it.

14. The Free Surgical operation conducted by Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello on 20 Women with Vesico Vaginal Fistula.

15. Almost completed building of College of Nursing Sciences in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State".
