Trump Becomes Republican Sole Candidate As Cruz, Kasich Give Up White House Race

SAN FRANCISCO, May 04, (THEWILL) – Republican Presidential hopeful and frontrunner, Donald Trump, has become the sole Republican candidate left in the party's primaries for the White House race.

Trump emerged sole candidate after winning the Indiana primary election on Wednesday which effectively forced his closest opponent, Ted Cruz, and Ohio Governor, John Kasich, to pull out of the race.

Cruz, who garnered 572 delegates, said he saw no path forward, after losing to Trump, who now has 1,053 votes while Kasich is expected to announce the suspension of his presidential campaign on Wednesday.

“And so with a heavy heart, but with boundless optimism, for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign,” Cruz said.

Although Trump crossed the 1,000-delegate mark on Tuesday night with less than 200 delegates to go, he still has to get up to 1,237 delegates votes to clinch the ticket.

“It is a beautiful thing to watch, and a beautiful thing to behold. We are going to make America great again,” Trump said in his victory speech.
