By Obidinma Aku

The vocal pro democracy civil society watchdog in Imo State, Imo Bilie Initiative for Social Justice (IBIN) has raised alarm over the poor job going on at flyover construction project going on at Ama wire along the Owerri-Okigwe road.

In a press statement issued to journalists in Owerri signed by the National coordinator, Comrd. Aku Obidinma and the General Secretary Comrd. Emperor Onyeka, the group condemned what it described as a shabby job being done by the government and warned that the poor quality of job on that project may endanger the lives of the people when it comes into use.

The statement frowned at the reduction in standard and quality of the materials used by the previous government in doing the job by the present one.

It also condemned the use of an unknown company without any construction track record as against the known Zerock construction company handling the project previously to execute such strategic and delicate project. The group is worried that going by the antecedent and notoriety of the present state government over construction of very poor projects that often spoil before they are finished, that this flyover may be a death trap for Imo people.

IBIN therefore called on the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) to quickly intervene to cross check both the materials used in the construction and the quality of job being done there to ensure that we do not record the usual construction failures that characterize the projects executed by the present administration in the country.
