BEVERLY HILLS, April 25, (THEWILL) – Erstwhile Governor of Jigawa State, Mr. Sule Lamido has openly declared his bid to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2019 general election.

Lamido spoke to journalists Monday in his Bamaina village, Birnin-Kudu Local Government Area.

The politician who is presently on trial at a high court over allegations of graft during his tenure, said he would work hard to earn the party's nomination since no one would get it on a platter of gold.

“If my party finds me worthy of the party’s presidential ticket to serve Nigeria, I will thank God and oblige. Although there are issues in the party that we are all working to resolve, we hope to have success soon and come out united. As I’m talking to you now, we are working silently to resolve our differences and bring back to our fold those that left the party for APC”, he said.

The former governor said the PDP's internal problems caused its resounding defeat in the last general elections but added that the party now has the capacity to rule the country again if members work hard and stay united.

Lamido also denied any rift between him and his successor, Gov. Muhammad Badaru of APC.

He stated that both of them had mutual respect for each other and he had no differences with him other than political ideologies.
