The 10 megawatts power plant project constructed by the Kano State government at the popular Tiga Dam is said to be almost completed, and that, soon, the generation of electricity from itt would commence by the second quarter of this year.

An assurance to this effect was given by the Country Head of Projects, Skipper Nigeria Ltd., Mr. Gauhar Malik, who said the project would be completed by May 2016, and that it had reached over 65 percent completion stage.

Besides, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said a contract for evacuation of the expected energy that would be generated, would be awarded in a couple of weeks, while expressing optimism that in the next three years, the state would have enough electricity for prospective consumers, and that the only way to provide electricity to the state was through hydro and solar energy.

Ganduje further explained that already the state government had started discussion with some firms on how to tap electricity from solar energy, hoping that this would solve the lingering closure of factories and unemployment in the state due to lack of stable power supply.
